SHABWA, Nov. 26 (Saba) - Shabwa governor Ahmed al-Amir on Wednesday announced several areas as distressed areas affected by oil spills.

There have been ongoing oil spills in areas of Lahia, Ghail bin Habtoor, Tamoura and several locations along the pipeline of the sector-4, that is from West of Ayad to al-Nashima port.

According to the governor, the causes of the oil leak are poor maintenance and stealing the oil by people loyal to the aggression, who created holes and siphoning off the oil.

Al-Amir said that thousands of barrels of oil leak daily into agricultural and residential areas located along the dilapidated pipeline, adding that the oil runoff into groundwater, leaving the water undrinkable.

The aggression mercenaries have deliberately neglected to make environmental remediation or to contain the disaster, which have been causing serious damage to the people and environment, he said, holding the US-Saudi aggression and its mercenaries responsible for the environmental pollution caused by oil spills in the province.
