[18/ October/2020]

SANA'A, Oct. 18 (Saba) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Hisham Sharaf has said that the success of the first phase of the prisoner swap process is a humanitarian step and a sign of progress towards peace.

In a statement to Saba, the minister added that the step represents a glimmer of hope at a time the Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition tightens the economic stranglehold on the Yemeni citizen in all provinces, including the occupied provinces.

Sharaf praised the efforts of the National Committee for Prisoners Affairs and its flexibility in completing the process despite the obstacles set by the other side.

He also hailed the role of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Yemen and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in supporting the implementation of the prisoner exchange.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the success of the prisoner exchange process at this stage has proven to the international community the correctness of the position of the Supreme Political Council (SPC) and the Salvation Government calling for stopping the aggression and lifting the siege as a prelude to any political settlement steps.

Minister Sharaf pointed out that the prisoner exchange process showed the readiness of Sana'a international airport and the professionalism of its staff to receive all types of planes, especially the government carrier of Yemen.
