Minister of Transport: Sanaa airport to be closed in coming days due to depletion of oil products

SANAA, Sept. 6 (Saba) - Transport Minister in the Salvation Government Zakaria al-Shami announced on Sunday the closure of Sanaa International Airport to flights of the United Nations and international organizations in next few days due to the depletion of the oil derivatives amount at the airport.

"The aggression is seeking from its war on Yemen to achieve any achievement on the reality after it failed militarily," al-Shami said during an event organized by The Ministry of Transport and the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology in Sanaa to mark the passage of four years of closing Sanaa Airport by Saudi-led aggression coalition.

Al-Shami explained that the continued detention of oil derivative ships by the aggression coalition and preventing their entry to the port of Hodeidah is causing a humanitarian disaster for the Yemeni people, especially patients in hospitals.

More than 540 thousand patients from those need to travel abroad are waiting for an unknown fate due to the closure of Sanaa Airport, he added.

He noted to the United Nations' inability to lift the blockade on Sanaa airport, which is the main artery for two-thirds of the population of the Republic of Yemen and its first gateway to the world.

The Minister of Transport stated that the closure of Sanaa International Airport came according to a decision by Saudi Ministry of Defense, in violation of international conventions and treaties.
