Aden Governor warns of danger of storing ammonium nitrate in Aden port
[08/ August/2020]

SANAA, Aug. 8 (Saba) - Governor of Aden province in the Salvation Government, Tariq Sallam, on Saturday warned of the danger of the occupation forces' storing quantities of ammonium nitrate in the port of Aden.

The governor, indicated in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), that Saudi-led aggression coalition had held containers containing ammonium nitrate three days ago and left them on the dockside without completing the rest of the necessary procedure, exposing citizens' lives and properties to danger if they explode for any reason.

Sallam called for finding quick solutions to dispose of them in proper ways, holding the forces in charge of the port responsible for any disaster resulting from non-disposal of the stored quantity, which is estimated at 130 containers containing 4,900 tons of ammonium.

The governor of Aden pointed out that the quantity stored in the port of Aden is equivalent to twice the amount that exploded in the port of Beirut, which amounted to 2,700 tons and left a huge disaster that was classified as the second explosion in the world after the Hiroshima bomb in Japan.

This doubles the size of the risks and challenges that may arise from the presence of this quantity in a sensitive and vital place and near residential neighborhoods, especially Aden, which is witnessing military tension between the mercenary forces and military skirmishes near the pier of the port, he added.
