Criminal Court in Capital Sanaa convicts 15 accused of terrorist acts, assassination of Dr. Sharaf al-Din

SANAA, July 15 (Saba) - The Specialized Criminal Court of First Instance in the Capital Sanaa has convicted 15 accused of belonging to al-Qaeda, carrying out terrorist and criminal acts and participating in the assassination of Dr. Ahmed Sharaf al-Din in the Capital.

 

In the session presided over by the Judge Ibrahim al-Azzani, in the presence of the Head of the Criminal Prosecution Judge Dr. Khaled al-Maweri, the verdict ruled that one of the 15 convicted persons to be sentenced to death and imprisoned others for a period of six months to 12 years and put the first convicted under police control for three years.

 

The court approved the confiscation of the means of transport and all weapons used in the crime and the return of personal seizures of the convicted.

 

The court relied on the grounds of the judgment on the confessions of the convicts, the minutes of gathering testimonies, the list of evidence and the official reports submitted by the criminal prosecution during the trial.

 

The criminal prosecution had charged the convicts of participating in an armed gang and an organization of the so-called al-Qaida organization to carry out criminal acts aimed at attacking citizens, armed forces, security, public, military and security installations, assassinating state security personnel, military personnel, foreigners, political figures, killings, kidnappings, bombings and resisting State authorities.

 

According to the indictment, the defendants prepared, planned, monitored and equipped to carry out assassinations and raids, including participating in the assassination of Dr. Ahmed Sharaf al-Din, attempting to assassinate the Major General Ali Hassan al-Sharafi, storming the central prison in Sanaa and smuggling a number of members of al-Qaeda , in addition to the criminal conspiracy to kill and kidnap a number of political and national security officers, political figures and foreign diplomats.
