[07/ July/2020]

SANAA, July 7 (Saba) - The Ministry of Public Health and Population succeed to reduce the repercussions of the Coronavirus- (COVID-19)and reduce citizens' concerns about the virus.

The Ministry adopted a strategy of "neither intimidation nor understatement" in dealing with the pandemic to raise the morale of citizens against the epidemic that swept the world and caused major injuries and deaths.

Yemen pursued a strategy and a special vision commensuration with the situation and living conditions it is experiencing, benefiting from the experiences of other countries in dealing with this pandemic, away from the international intimidation taken by most countries in tightening measures that weakened the morale of its citizens and created a state of fear that was more deadly than the disease itself.

The Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakkil told Saba that the ministry was keen that the measures taken should be in keeping with the living conditions, especially in light of the continued aggression, the siege and the stoppage of salaries.

He pointed out the media hype was not drawn into people's minds as stock exchanges for which the media outlets compete but the ministry focused on the awareness side of the seriousness of the virus in order to curb the virus, who to prevent it and ways to combat it.

Al-Mutawakkil said, "We depended on our Almighty Allah .., and we urged the people to take guidelines and awareness into their accounts and as the instructions issued by the Higher Ministerial Committee for Combating Epidemics, including proper nutrition to strengthen immunity and deal with a high responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus and limit its spread".

He added, "A strategy that does not intimidate or underestimate the Ministry of Health undertook in dealing with COVID 19, represented by raising the morale of citizens, increasing their psychological immunity, avoiding intimidating citizens from the epidemic, and reducing the amount of exaggeration and media intimidation by the virus and its seriousness that are reasons lead to weakening citizens' immunity."

Dr. al-Mutawakkil emphasized that this strategy has proven effective in reducing people's fears of the epidemic to the lowest levels, as all cases have been dealt with as respiratory infections ... indicating that despite the scarce capabilities in light of the siege imposed on Yemen, the Salvation government and the Supreme Committee managed to confront epidemics by reducing psychological pressure on citizens, whether infected with the virus or of being infected.

The Minister of Health renewed the call of the citizens to be aware of what has been pumped by some of the media about the virus and its seriousness, especially the aggression channels ''inside it will the mercy, outside it the torment'', renewing the Ministry and the Salvation Government efforts in dealing with the pandemic, indicating the need to follow specific health measures and precautions.

He said, "Dealing with the Coronavirus epidemic worldwide has gone through contradictions, the world has been quarantined, companies have gone bankrupt and millions of people have lost their businesses..., the world has witnessed the contradiction of the World Health Organization, which confirms the correctness of the steps taken by Yemen in facing this pandemic."

He added, "While Yemen is facing the Corona pandemic, we hear about the closing of aid programs on the pretext of lack of funding, while emergency assistance is not activated by the mechanism of the United Nations", stressing that international organizations, including the UN International Organizations, have done little to counter the virus, as ventilators have been provided limited to other programs were ordered before two years''.

The Minister al-Mutawakkil considered the detention of oil ships as a deliberate step committed by the aggression coalition to thwart the successes achieved by Yemen in curbing the spread of the epidemic, explaining at a time the United Nations did not stop intimidating the Yemenis under the pretext of Corona, but it keeps silent towards the crime of preventing the entry of oil ships because of its importance in enhancing the performance of the health sector.

He also stressed that the timing of the detention of oil ships by the Aggression coalition is not far away from its attempt to double the spread of the Corona epidemic in Yemen while Yemen has achieved successes in this aspect, praising the efforts of the White Army, Physicians, nurses and specialized professors, who were at the forefront of confronting the virus who have also proved their worth in curbing the virus despite the scarcity of resources.

For his part, Director of the National Center for Population and Health Education and Media Dr. Yusef al-Hadheri referred to the Ministry's efforts to activate awareness programs on how to tackle the Coronavirus through various media, social media, preachers and guides.

He emphasized that the prevention of Coronavirus is represented in societal awareness and the importance of abandoning some of the social customs and behavior that may cause the spread of the epidemic, especially through gatherings, stressing the importance of taking precautionary instructions to prevent it.

Since the World Health Organization declared that 19 global pandemics have been cited, Yemen has taken several measures in the course of precautionary measures to counter the virus, starting with the approval of a national plan and defining strategies to confront it through rapid assessment of the extent of readiness at several levels in coordination with the relevant sectors to raise the level of readiness and enhance surveillance epidemiology which led to the formation of a  joint operations room for the concerned authorities to follow up the virus.

The plan included strengthening the central laboratories with the capabilities necessary to examine any suspected cases, confirming the diagnosis, strengthening quarantine procedures, preparing air, sea and land ports, and intensifying health awareness.

According to a report issued by the Ministry of Health, technical teams of epidemiologists were formed and were tasked with preparing temporary stereotypical evidence related to the virus, methods of identifying it, isolating cases and forming joint technical committees to confront Corona in the capital Sanaa and other provinces.

The report highlighted that a joint operations room has been formed in several sectors concerned to follow up returnees or expatriates of the endemic countries and verify cases of the corona, making sure the virus not enter Yemen and supervise preparations in the provinces, as well as activate quarantine procedures in land and air outlets and provide them with thermal examination devices and personal protection tools.

Isolation centers were also prepared in the capital Sanaa and provinces to deal with suspected cases of the epidemic, training of trainers on the virus were also held so as to raise awareness measures related to promoting awareness of the seriousness of the Corona epidemic and the importance of reporting any arrivals or expatriates from the affected areas they were coming from.

The report confirmed that the Ministry of Health has provided solutions for testing the virus, and has provided 36 remote temperature measuring devices that have been distributed to land ports to monitor the cases and test the arrivals' temperatures.

It is reported that the symptoms of the Coronavirus are high fever, accompanied by a dry cough, severe headache, shortness of breath, severe fatigue and pneumonia, and acute pneumonia syndrome, with insufficient functions of a number of body parts.

Coronavirus prevention methods are representing in washing hands with soap and water, avoiding direct contact with people with any respiratory disease, not touching the eyes, nose, and mouth without washing hands with soap and water, and working to quickly clean contaminated surfaces, along with drinking a large number of warm fluids.
