Water, Environment Minister discusses cooperation with UNICEF Executive Director's envoy

SANAA, Feb. 18 (Saba) - Minister of Water and Environment Nabil Abdullah al-Wazir discussed on Tuesday with UNICEF executive special envoy Saad Hawry the relations between the ministry and the organization and ways to develop them.

The meeting touched on topics related to the development and service role of the ministry and its efforts to meet and overcome the challenges imposed by the aggression on this sector, and to emphasize in this regard the need for the ministry's support by international organizations, especially UNICEF, to enable them to Moving its activities from the emergency phase to the implementation of sustainable projects as included in the 2020 plan.

The meeting also touched on the link all the work of interventions in the field of water and environmental sanitation to the ministry as a sovereign entity and as the chief responsible for the water and sanitation sector at the level of the Republic.

The Minister of Water and Environment noted the level of relations and cooperation between the ministry and UNICEF, which has been at the forefront of the humanitarian landscape in standing by Yemen since the beginning of the aggression, while the majority of organizations have played their part.

At the same time, he called for UNICEF to continue to deal with its partners with the same humanitarian approach as usual and to remain free from political interventions that would adversely affect the course and level of services associated with citizens.

The minister pointed out that the ministry is coming to an important stage of strategic work aimed at promoting the water and sanitation sector as included in the national vision to build a modern Yemeni state to achieve the desired water stability.

He stressed that the ministry will spare no effort in launching its national project, which is included in the national vision to see the light of day this year thanks to the support of the Supreme Political Council and its human capabilities and the concerted efforts of partners and supporters.

For his part, the Special Envoy of the Executive Director of UNICEF praised the efforts of the Ministry of Water and Environment in partnership with UNICEF.

Hawry stressed the organization's keenness to play its humanitarian role to the fullest in order to achieve the integration of the partnership with the Ministry of Water to upgrade this sector to perform its service role towards citizens.
