Ministry of Telecommunications announces Internet service return
[14/ February/2020]

SANAA, Feb. 14 (Saba) -The Yemeni Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology announced on Thursday the return of internet service in Yemen .

The ministry confirmed on Twitter that the technical teams have completed the early stages of repairs to the Falcon submarine cable, which was cut last month in the Gulf of Suez.

It explained that the Yemeni international telecommunications company “Telemen” will announce the return of internet service in an official statement in the coming hours, praising the great and professional efforts of Telemen and the Telecommunications Corporation.

An official source at the Ministry confirmed that the technical teams have completed the early stages of repairs to the Falcon submarine cable.

The official pointed out that the air raids of the Saudi-American aggression caused the interruption of land cables in the land ports.

The AAE-1 submarine cable to Aden has cost $40 million since 2017 and the company has not been able to use it as a result of Saudi-led coalition .

Yemen Telecom added that the $30 million SMW5 submarine cable to Hodeidah, which was shut down in 2017, was suspended due to the ban of the coalition .

The company called on everyone to investigate credibility and not to be drawn into the lies created by aggression and its tools on the homeland to mislead public opinion.

On January 30th, the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Mesfer al-Nameer confirmed that 50% of the remaining international internet capacities had been cut off due to the attack on the international links ” route Aden-Djibouti” by the coalition-backed militias in Aden.
