[14/ January/2020]

SANAA, Jan. 14 (Saba) - GCX, the owner of international internet marine cables, has announced that it is working around the clock to restore the international internet capacity that has been out of service as a result of the exposure of the Falcon and Via submarine cables to two disconnect near the Port of Suez.

The company is working to provide alternative options for restoring internet capacities that had been affected by the two disconnect by connecting to other cables, it said in a statement.

According to the statement, the preliminary results indicated that the probable cause of the cut was due to the anchor of a large merchant ship in the region, explaining that the cut affected on the main cable (Falcon) which runs from the port of Suez to Muscat, while the other cut affected the cable (VIA) which runs from the port of Suez to Mumbai.

The statement stressed that the company team is working around the clock to accelerate the process of repair and restoration.
