Parliament listens to report on environmental damage caused by aggression

SANAA, Dec. 16 (Saba) – The Parliament in its meeting on Monday chaired by Speaker Yahya Ali al-Ra’i listened to the Water and Environment Committee’s report on the environmental damage caused by Saudi-led coalition aggression on Yemen.

The report noted that the aggression has caused destructive and disastrous effects on the environment and nature in Yemen in general, according to the report.

The report revealed the size of destruction in the infrastructure, including water tanks, networks, wells and dams, sewage stations and networks, electricity, educational and health facilities, roads and bridges.

The aggression war led to the destruction of many farms, especially the economic farms in Tihama, Saada, Marib, Jawf, Hajjah, Aden, Taiz, Sanaa, Lahj, Abyan, and Hadramout provinces, either by direct targeting or as a result of the stoppage of water pumps due to lack of fuel materials and their high prices.

The aggression caused the burning of green spaces in most provinces, and led to the death of large numbers of livestock and animals in Tihama, Abyan and Lahj.

According to the report, the aggression also caused an increase in desertification area, especially in the western and southern areas in Tihama, Taiz, Lahj, Abyan, and the eastern provinces such as Hadramout valley, as well as Saada province.

The Parliament decided to postpone the discussion of the report to next meeting in presence of the government side.
