PM discusses with IOM charge d'affaires situation of migrants in Yemen

SANAA, Nov. 12 (Saba) -  Prime Minister Dr. Abdel-Aziz bin Habtour met on Tuesday with the charge d'affaires of the Deputy Chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Yemen, Head of Program Support Department, Jennifer Pro.

During the meeting, they discussed the situation of migrants in our country, especially from the Horn of Africa and Ethiopia, and ways of fulfilling their joint commitments, including reactivating the voluntary return process for those wishing to return to their countries, especially those in detention centers.

The Prime Minister stressed that migration among peoples will continue as long as the driving factors continue, such as conflicts, wars and political, security and economic instability around the world.

Dr. Habtour explained that the exceptional circumstances in which Yemen is undergoing and the conditions of the siege imposed on the Yemeni people have affected the government's efforts to take legal and humanitarian measures in their return to their countries of origin, including the exchange of prisoners for criminal offenses.

And called on the Office of International Migration (IOM) in Sana'a to sit jointly with the competent authorities to discuss the mechanism to deal with the conditions of migrants detained or imprisoned in prisons, taking into account humanitarian law and regulations and rules governing international migration activity.

The international migration has been found to provide protection and aid to migrants, Jennifer Pro confirmed.
