LONDON,(Saba)- Eight British suspects including a man identified by the United States as a senior al-Qaida figure, appeared in a London court under heavy guard Wednesday as police investigated their alleged plot to commit murder and to cause mayhem with chemical, biological or radioactive materials.

The eight suspects, including an alleged al-Qaida operative linked to a terror alert in the United States this month, did not enter pleas Wednesday and were ordered detained until their next court appearance Aug. 25.

It will be the first time the men are seen in public since their arrests two weeks ago, two days after the United States imposed orange alerts around sites in three cities.
