ANAA, March 11 (Saba) - A court in Malaysia on Monday released Indonesian journalist Siti Aisyah , who was accused of killing Kim Jong-nam, half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un after the prosecution withdrew the charge of murder.
Attorney General Mohammed Iskandar asked the court to withdraw the charge of murder against Aisha without giving a reason for the decision, adding that "instructions were given to withdraw the charge against the Indonesian Aisha."
The judge agreed with the prosecutor's request to drop charges against Aisha for the murder of Kim Jong Nam. "She has been released and can leave now," but the judge's release does not amount to acquittal.
Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia told reporters he was grateful to the Malaysian government, adding "We are happy with the decision of the Court and we will try to get back to Aisha to Indonesia today or as soon as possible"
"I feel happy and I did not know that would happen," Siti Aisyah told reporters. "I did not expect that."
On his part, Aisyah's lawyer told reporters "My mission is over, it's free now and I'll be back in Indonesi." adding "We still believe it was only a scapegoat and I still think North Korea has something to do with it,".
The murder in Malaysian law carries the mandatory death penalty, but the new Malaysian government plans to abolish the death penalty and suspends all executions until the law is changed or amended.
