[29/November/2018]

SANAA, Nov. 29 (Saba) – President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, on Thursday met in Sanaa with the UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock, who is currently visiting Yemen.

In the meeting, the president confirmed the council's support to efforts of the UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, to achieve a just and honorable peace for the Yemeni people.

Al-Mashat praised the humanitarian organizations' role in mitigating the worsening humanitarian crisis working in Yemen.

He called for expanding the organizations' interventions to meet the increasing needs of Yemeni people as a result of the aggression war and siege.

In this regard, Lowcock referred to the efforts of the United Nations to avoid an impending humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen, stressing the importance of achieving peace as the only solution to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.

He reiterated the call for avoiding the port of Hodeidah any targeting or suspension of its activities, because that would have disastrous effects on the lives of citizens.
