Eight hostages, including a foreigner freed, seven abductors killed in pre-dawn raid on al-Qaeda hideout
[25/November/2014]

SANA'A, Nov. 25 (Saba) - Counter-terrorism forces carried out a pre-dawn operation and freed eight hostages, including seven Yemenis a foreign national from the hands of terrorist elements who had abducted them, the Supreme Security Committee (SSC) announced early on Tuesday.

Seven of the abductors were killed during the raid, an official SSC source said in a statement to Saba.

"After receiving information about the whereabouts of the al-Qaeda terrorist elements that had kidnapped eight hostages, including seven Yemenis and a foreigner, the anti-terrorism forces carried out an operation in the early hours of dawn today. The operation was successful and resulted in the liberation of all the hostages," the statement said.

Seven of the terrorists who were holding the hostages were killed during the operation, he added. The source did not specify the place of the raid.

He said a member of the counter-terrorism force was slightly injured during the raid.

The source said the SSC would later make an announcement with the names of the seven slain kidnappers.

"The military and security establishment will spare no effort to carry out their duty in order to maintain security and stability," the source said.

He further called upon all citizens to cooperate with the armed forces and police by providing information on the terrorists.
