Tunis - Saba:
The National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists condemned on Monday in the strongest terms the assassination of journalist Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues from al Jazeera crew in Gaza, calling for effective international protection for Palestinian journalists in light of the escalating systematic targeting.
In an official statement, the Syndicate said: "The airstrike carried out by the Zionist enemy army targeted the journalistic crew, consisting of correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qeraiqea, cameramen Ibrahim Daher and Moamen Aliwa, and the crew's driver, Mohammed Noufal, while they were in a tent near al-Shifa Hospital in the central Gaza Strip."
The Syndicate indicated that the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of the aggression on October 7, 2023, has reached 238, in an unprecedented wave of killings in the history of international journalism. It considered this crime part of a systematic campaign aimed at silencing the voices of truth in Gaza.
The Syndicate emphasized that the near-total ban on international journalists entering Gaza deprives the world of the truth, forcing dozens of local journalists to risk their lives to report on events.
The Syndicate called on the international community to take immediate action, including opening urgent international investigations into the targeting of Palestinian journalists, classifying these acts as war crimes, holding perpetrators accountable before international courts, lifting the ban on international journalists entering Gaza, and ensuring independent and impartial media coverage.
It also called for the provision of personal protective equipment for local journalists, ensuring rapid medical evacuation of the wounded, and providing training, legal, and logistical support from the United Nations and international media organizations.
The Syndicate called on all professional, human rights, trade union, and civil society organizations to exert political and diplomatic pressure on the United States, the European Union, and the Human Rights Council to demand an end to the Zionist enemy's violations and the imposition of sanctions or a review of relations with it.
The Government Media Office in Gaza announced earlier today, Monday, that the number of martyred journalists had risen to 238 since the beginning of the genocidal crime against the Gaza Strip, following the Israeli targeting of six journalists on Sunday night.
It condemned in the strongest terms the systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the "Israeli" enemy, calling on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and all journalistic bodies around the world to condemn these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media professionals in the Gaza Strip.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has continued to commit crimes of genocide and impose a total siege on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. This has resulted in the martyrdom of 61,499 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 153,575 others, according to a preliminary toll. Thousands of victims remain under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.
