Tokyo - Saba:
Japanese voters headed to the polls on Sunday to elect half of the members of the House of Councillors (the upper house of parliament), amid intense competition that serves as a crucial test for Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who faces challenges stemming from rising prices and concerns over immigration.
Polling stations opened at 7:00 a.m. local time (22:00 GMT Saturday) and will close at 8:00 p.m. (11:00 GMT Sunday). Local media are expected to release exit poll results shortly thereafter.
According to Bloomberg on Sunday, voters will pass judgment on Prime Minister Ishiba after ten months in office, amid growing dissatisfaction over inflation and unresolved tariff negotiations with the United States.
