Iranian Ambassador to Russia: Supreme Leader’s Fatwa Prohibits Nuclear Bombs, We Will Continue Peaceful Enrichment

Moscow - Saba:
The Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, affirmed today, Saturday, that his country no longer sees any benefit in dialogue with the United States following the recent attack on its nuclear facilities. He stressed that "resuming negotiations requires a clear American commitment and an actual lifting of sanctions imposed on Tehran."

The Russian news agency Sputnik quoted Jalali as saying: "The circumstances have changed today, and even the general mood inside Iran has changed as well." He added, "Perhaps before the imposed war and the Israeli and American aggression, our people dealt with the idea of dialogue more simply, but now public opinion is more skeptical."

He continued: "If dialogue has been used as a tool for deception, with no real commitments made, what trust can be built with the other side? The conditions for dialogue have been repeatedly presented by the Foreign Minister and senior Iranian officials."

Jalali added: "Under the current circumstances, we do not see the environment as suitable for any dialogue, especially with the absence of any indication of American willingness to correct or even clarify their behavior. Why was Iran targeted? What does this aggression mean at a time when negotiations are taking place?"

The Iranian ambassador in Moscow clarified: "If Washington really wants to reduce or remove tensions, as it claims, we do not object to returning to the negotiating table."

He added: "But we have two main issues: First, we do not seek to produce a nuclear bomb, nor do we intend to. This matter is not part of our security doctrine, and there is a clear fatwa from the Supreme Leader forbidding this. Second, we will not give up our peaceful nuclear rights, foremost among them the right to enrichment."

Jalali confirmed that raising uranium enrichment to 19.75% was a response to Western countries’ refusal to supply Tehran with fuel for its nuclear reactors, despite the urgent need to produce radioactive medicines for thousands of patients.

He also emphasized that "what Iran demands is the lifting of unjust and illegal sanctions imposed with the aim of subjugating it, and the past years have proven that these sanctions failed to break our will."

Iran consistently denies any military nature to its nuclear program, affirming that its activities are solely for peaceful purposes.

Earlier, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, stated that the agency "has not seen concrete evidence that Iran has an active nuclear weapons program."
