Washington - Saba:
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that 10 additional hostages will soon be released from the Gaza Strip, without providing further details.
During a dinner at the White House with several members of the U.S. House of Representatives, Trump praised the efforts of his special envoy, Steve Witkoff. He stated, “We’ve recovered most of the hostages. And we’re going to get 10 more back very soon. Hopefully, we’ll wrap this up quickly.”
Trump’s remarks come as a new round of ceasefire negotiations continues in Doha, Qatar, between Israeli and Hamas negotiators. The discussions are centered around a U.S.-backed proposal for a 60-day truce.
According to two informed sources cited by U.S. media on Thursday, Qatar, Egypt, and the United States have jointly submitted a new proposal to both Israel and Hamas, including a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal in Gaza.
The sources indicated that the updated proposal, delivered last Wednesday, includes Israeli concessions that mediators believe could accelerate an agreement. They added that the negotiations held in Doha over the past ten days have helped narrow some of the gaps between the parties.
U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff recently stated that the negotiations were “progressing well,” while Trump commented, “We have good news coming out of Gaza.”
