Benomar welcomes Southern Question Outcome Document

SANA’A, Dec. 24 (Saba)- The Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General, Jamal Benomar, has welcomed the agreement on the Outcome Document on the Southern Question reached by the sub-committee of the Southern Working Group of the National Dialogue Conference.

Speaking to Saba, Benomar said that the agreement, signed on Monday evening in Sana’a, provides for a just solution to the Southern Question.

It followed extensive talks led by President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi, with the participation of Mr. Benomar and the National Dialogue Presidium.

Mr. Benomar commended President Hadi for his efforts to foster consensus, and the high degree of responsibility demonstrated by the delegates of the sub-committee.

“The Outcome Document reflects the highest degree of consensus among the political constituencies participating in the National Dialogue”, Benomar said.

“It paves the way for establishing a unified state, on the basis of federalism and democracy, pursuant to the principle of a State that upholds human rights, the rule of law, and equal citizenship through the creation of a new state structure and social contract”, he added.
