SANA'A December 21. 2023 (Saba)-The General Authority of Zakat implemented a number of awareness projects and programmes, the most prominent of which are charity projects on the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, at a cost of about 37 billion riyals during the period from 1 Safar until the end of Jumada Awwal 1445 AH.
The implemented projects varied during that period, most notably the charity projects inaugurated by the President of the Supreme Political Council, on the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, which included 36 projects at a cost of 34 billion riyals.
Charity projects included a project to support medical services and health care for the poor and needy for free in Sana’a; In implementation of the directives of the President of the Political Council, a monthly amount of 400 million riyals, with a total of four billion and 800 million riyals per year.
In addition to a kidney transplant and heart stent project for 110 cases, at a total cost of 125 million riyals.
Charity projects in the medical and health aspect also included supporting Al-Thawra Hospital in the capital, Sana'a, with 40 medical devices worth more than 24 million riyals.
A project to support Hajda Central Hospital in Taiz Governorate with an echocardiogram (Echo) television device at a cost of 178 million and 755 thousand riyals.
Also, the opening of a project to equip the production and training unit in the National Program for Productive Families with modern sewing machines worth $100,000.
During that period, the Authority’s projects also included the launch of the first phase of economic empowerment projects in the agricultural and livestock fields for poor families in the Hodeidah and Al Mahwit governorates for the year 1445 AH, at a total cost amounting to 600 million riyals.
These projects included rehabilitating the Sardoud Agricultural Technical Institute and raising its readiness, beekeeping and honey production for 2,500 hives. Reclaiming agricultural land with an area of 60 square meters.
It also included the launch of two projects for debtors within the seventh phase, the first in Al Mahwit Governorate for 92 debtors and insolvents, amounting to 162 million riyals, and the second in Hajjah Governorate, for 143 debtors and insolvents, amounting to more than 355 million riyals.
As part of the support and donations campaign for the people of Gaza, the Zakat Authority and its employees launched a project amounting to one billion and 390 million riyals.
The Zakat Authority also contributed by providing 40,000 food baskets in the food basket project to all families of martyrs and missing persons in all governorates on the occasion of the anniversary of the martyr 1445 AH.
The project included the distribution of 69,372 food baskets at a cost of one billion, 659 million and 300 thousand riyals.
In Hodeida governorate, the Authority’s office in the governorate organized the second mass wedding festival on Kamaran Island for 260 brides and grooms. Established the 55th free medical camp for surgery and ophthalmology in Bajil district, from which more than 2,000 cases benefited.
The Zakat Authority also funded the 57th free medical camp for ophthalmology and surgery in Al-Madan district in Amran governorate.
Regarding zakat in kind, the Zakat Authority implemented a project to distribute zakat in kind on cash crops to 30,000 poor families.
During that period, the Awareness and Rehabilitation Sector organized a number of expanded awareness meetings in the Authority’s offices in five governorates.
It is worth noting that the head of the General Authority for Zakat revealed, during the inauguration of charity projects on the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, that the number of beneficiaries of zakat disbursements, since the establishment of the General Authority for Zakat, has reached approximately 5 million and 345 thousand and 697 beneficiaries in all governorates.
