Insan Organization presents report "Unseen Tragedies in Red Sea" in press conference
[15/February/2023]

SANA'A February 15. 2023 (Saba) - Insan Organization for Rights and Liberties reviewed today, Wednesday, in a press conference, its report entitled "Unseen Tragedies in the Red Sea".

The press conference touched on the most prominent violations and crimes committed against Yemeni fishermen in the Red Sea by the aggression, countries , their tools and mercenaries, represented by the naval blockade, arrest, kidnapping, inclusion among prisoners of war, and direct killing.

At the conference, the Minister of Human Rights, Ali Hussein Al-Dailami, considered fishermen targeting by the aggression countries and mercenaries as one of the most heinous crimes, which requires the United Nations and the international community to take deterrent measures against the perpetrators.

He explained that fishermen are among the most vulnerable groups, targeting and attacking them is a crime against all humanity.
Al-Dailami pointed to the importance of the repercussions of the crimes committed by the aggression and its targeting of civilians and civilian objects on sources of livelihoods.

He stressed the need for everyone to move within the legal and human rights framework, and to raise issues related to violations and crimes of aggression by various means.

Also, he indicated that the crimes of the aggression countries in the Red Sea include enforced disappearance, torture, kidnapping, human trafficking and maritime piracy by the American forces.
He pointed to what is happening on the western coast of kidnappings, rapes, threats, displacement, assassinations, murder and the establishment of secret prisons.

Al-Dailami expressed his regret for the silence of the United Nations and society regarding the violations and crimes taking place in the Red Sea.

"a number of international organizations and experts have issued reports describing the crimes committed by the aggression as inhumane crimes, whose perpetrators are brought to the International Criminal Court" he said.

Moreover, he stated that these reports were met by the United Nations by rewarding the international team of experts by exempting him from his work, which indicates international complicity and the suspicious role of the international community.

Al-Dailami touched on what some international fishing companies are doing in Yemeni territorial waters in terms of bombing and taking certain types of fish, throwing the rest into the sea, which leads to marine environmental pollution, and risks and damages to marine life.

He praised the role of the human rights organization Insan, and its interest in humanitarian and national issues.
In addition, he called on human rights and legal civil society organizations to follow the example of Insan in following up on citizens' issues, especially those who are directly targeted, as is the case with fishermen.

At the conference, which was attended by the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Fisheries for the Investment and Research Sector, Mustafa Hataba, the head of the Insan Organization, Amir al-Din Jahaf, stressed the importance of the report to review the crimes of the aggression countries and the entities funded by it against Yemeni fishermen.

He pointed out that there are four types of crimes committed against fishermen in the Red Sea, including the naval blockade to prevent fishermen from practicing their profession, earning a living, arrest, kidnapping and direct killing.

And the involvement of a group of hidden fishermen by the aggression coalition in exchanges for prisoners of war, in addition to the harassment and arbitrary imprisonment practiced by Eritrea against Yemeni fishermen.

Jahaf reviewed the violations and crimes of the aggression countries and those funded by it against Yemeni fishermen in the Red Sea, and their direct targeting and making them targets for warplanes, battleships, boats and machine guns of the aggression countries .

He stressed that the number of martyrs among the fishermen reached 274 martyrs and 215 disabled people as a result of direct targeting and torture in the prisons of the aggression coalition, and more than 2000 fishermen were kidnapped and 476 boats were destroyed.

Jahaf held the United Nations and the UN Security Council responsible for remaining silent and turning a blind eye to the criminal practices of the aggression countries that compound the suffering of fishermen.

Furthermore, he expressed the hope that the United Nations, the Security Council and the international community would review positions regarding what fishermen are exposed to and work to protect them and their families.

Jahaf called on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and the President of the Assembly of States Parties to the court to investigate the crimes committed against the Yemeni people, including the fishermen.

The head of the Insan organization called on relief organizations, businessmen, and philanthropists to pay attention to and fishermen segment support. Being one of the groups most affected and most in need due to the aggression.
