Al-Junaid: Yemeni airports' closure is contrary to international laws
Al-Junaid: Yemeni airports' closure is contrary to international laws
Al-Junaid: Yemeni airports' closure is contrary to international laws
[08/December/2022]

SANA'A December 08.2022 (Saba) - Deputy Prime Minister for National Vision Affairs and Head of the Executive Office of the Vision Department Mahmoud Al-Junaid on Thursday confirmed that the closure of Yemen's airports and the siege on the Yemeni people are inconsistent with the international principles, norms and laws.

During his meeting with Minister of Transport Abdul Wahhab Al-Durra, al-Junaid described the United Nations celebration of the World Aviation Day as a strange paradox.

While the United Nations celebrates the World Aviation Day, it is "watching the suffering of the Yemeni people from the blockade and remains silent. The Yemeni patients are incapable to travel to receive treatment as the most basic human rights," he said.

Al-Durra affirmed that Yemen participates in the revival of the World Aviation Day event on the seventh of December every year, despite the aggression, blockade and destruction that affected the airports amid a shameful international silence.

"The world's airports are open, and provide services to travelers to move freely, while the Yemeni people are in prison because of the aggression and the comprehensive blockade, and most of the country's airports are destroyed and suspended because of the aggression."

Al-Durra said that the Arab and foreign airlines have expressed their willingness to operate civil flights to and from Sana'a International Airport, but they were met with refusal and pressure from the aggression coalition, despite the airport's technical readiness.

He pointed out that civil aviation activity suffers from a halt due to the blockade, which led to depriving the Yemeni people of their rights to travel and move like the rest of the world's peoples, for almost eight years, during which patients, students and expatriates were extremely affected.

Al-Durra also confirmed that the Ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority are currently seeking, within their future plan, to rehabilitate and operate Hodeida and Taiz airports, in accordance with the international laws and specifications.
