SANA'A, June 10 (Saba) - The leader of al-Qaeda in Ghail Bawazir district, eastern Mukalla city of Hadramout governorate has been arrested, a military official said Monday.
The official said that military individuals in a checkpoint managed on Monday to captured "Omar Ashour", the leader of al-Qaeda in Ghail Bawazir district, and his son "Abdullah" in Shahir area.
The military individuals found with "Ashour" and his son their passports, which is expected to be used to escaped from Yemen, he added.
This came as part of a combing operation to all areas in districts of Shahr and Ghail Bawazir districts, where a military operation was launched last Wednesday against al-Qaeda militant groups.
A military official said that the operation was successful and led to killing seven of al-Qaeda operative leaders and militants and wounding many others, in addition to destroying weapons stores and seizing explosives and a number of vehicles and motorcycles used by al-Qaida in assassination operations.
One military officer was killed and five soldiers were injured in the operation, he added.
