SCMCHA Secretary-General meets new Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen

SCMCHA Secretary-General meets new Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen
[04/March/2021]

SANA'A, Mar. 04 (Saba) - Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (SCMCHA) Abdul Mohsen Tawoos met with new Resident Coordinator and the Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations William Gressly.

The meeting touched on the humanitarian situation that Yemen has been experiencing for six years as a result of the blockade, aggression, and humanitarian action aimed at alleviating human suffering.

Tawoos told the new envoy that he would receive all facilities from the SCMCHA to move forward the tasks of humanitarian work and the obligations of United Nations organizations to work to alleviate the repercussions of the humanitarian tragedy resulting from the blockade and aggression.

He explained that Yemen suffers from many difficulties in light of the aggression’s intention to starve the Yemeni people and the adoption of a policy of collective punishment to prevent ships of oil derivatives and domestic gas from entering the port of Hodeida.

Tawoos pointed to the need to strengthen the positive roles of international organizations operating in Yemen and to work according to the need plan for the current year.

He pointed out the need for humanitarian action to keep pace with efforts to lift the blockade and stop the aggression against the Yemeni people so that they can lift the need without collecting humanitarian funds that do not meet their urgent needs.

Secretary-General of the SCMCHA stressed that the Humanitarian Affairs Council is keen to stand by the United Nations Resident Representative to facilitate and achieve success for his humanitarian missions in Yemen.

On his part, Gressly praised the SCMCHA's efforts in coordinating and facilitating the work of humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen.

He said that all humanitarian agencies, organizations, and United Nations programs pay attention to everything that alleviates the human suffering of the Yemeni people.
