More than $ 20 billion in losses to Yemen due to piracy on fuel ships: Oil Company
[19/February/2021]

SANA'A, Feb. 19 (Saba) - The Yemeni Oil Company confirmed on Friday that the direct and indirect economic losses incurred by Yemen as a result of maritime piracy on fuel ships during the year 2020 AD, exceeded 20 billion dollars.

The company's executive director, Ammar al-Adhrai, indicated during a protest stand by the company’s employees today in front of the model station in Sana’a, that 26 million Yemenis are bearing the trouble due to the acts of maritime piracy by the forces of the US-Saudi aggression.

He pointed out that the delay fines incurred by Yemen due to the seizure of oil derivative ships exceeded 28 million and 800 thousand dollars, equivalent to 18 billion riyals, which is an additional cost that the citizen should bear.

Al-Adhrai explained that the customs and tax revenues on the currently detained ships do not exceed six billion riyals. He said, "The coalition of aggression is paying the Yemeni people three times the customs duties on the basis of which fuel ships were detained according to the statement of the UN envoy Martin Griffiths."

He criticized the briefing of the UN envoy in the Security Council when he indicated that the average period of detention of fuel ships does not exceed 75 days ... indicating that the ship Pending Factory and the ship Majnoon has reached more than 300 days of detention.

The Executive Director of the Yemeni Oil Company held the forces of the aggression coalition, led by America and the United Nations, with full responsibility for what the situation in Yemen would lead to.

He stressed that the United Nations is able to enter fuel ships into the port of Hodeida, pointing out that the forces of aggression are the ones who finance the United Nations and pay its operational expenses.

Al-Adhrai pointed out that the continuing acts of piracy and the detention of fuel ships will cause a humanitarian catastrophe, indicating that all vital and service sectors are threatened with stopping in the coming hours and days.

"The Yemeni Oil Company is a service company that provides its services to all citizens, service sectors, and humanitarian and relief organizations," he said.

The director of the oil company called upon the world’s freedom, jurists, activists, and media professionals to stand by the Yemeni people and expose the forces of aggression, on top of which is America, and its arbitrary and free piracy practices on fuel ships.

He called on the international community, the United Nations, and international humanitarian organizations to assume full responsibility for the acts of piracy on ships of oil derivatives practiced by the countries of the coalition of US-Saudi aggression in full view of the world.
