CSOs call for canceling Trump's decision over Ansaruallah
CSOs call for canceling Trump's decision over Ansaruallah
CSOs call for canceling Trump's decision over Ansaruallah
[23/January/2021]

SANA'A, Jan. 23 (Saba) - Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Yemen on Friday condemned and called for canceling the decision taken by the previous administration of Trump that designated Ansarullah as a terrorist organization.

In a joint statement, the CSOs clarified that this aggressive step will have catastrophic risks to the humanitarian situation in Yemen and will double the suffering of the Yemeni people, most of whom are below the poverty line and vulnerable to famine.

The statement indicated the US administration, which took the decision, contributes mainly to moving Yemen towards a mass genocide, and it is considered a hostile decision in addition to tightening the blockade and preventing commercial ships from reaching the port of Hodeida and holding them at sea.

"As CSOs working in the field of protecting civilians and distributing relief aid to the victims and affected, we are well aware of the nature of the catastrophic conditions that civilians are experiencing in Yemen over the past six years", the statement read.

The statement added the aggression against Yemen and the suffocating blockade have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people and displaced millions who have been forced to leave their homes and live in extremely and complex conditions, lacking the most basic necessities of life.

Millions of civilians in Yemen are now living in what has become known as the" worst humanitarian crisis on earth '', the statement said, adding they, the civilians,  depend on aid to survive and their lives are threatened with annihilation, in addition, they are steps away from certain death and millions have been pushed to the brink of famine, as a result of the spread malnutrition, epidemics, and reduced funding of relief aid.

The statement pointed out that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, made it clear last month that Yemen is now in imminent danger of the worst famine the world has seen in decades, ''If no immediate action is taken, millions might die.''

The statement said they recognize the importance of strengthening the efforts of humanitarian workers at the present time and creating more effective mechanisms for delivering and directing aid in a way that alleviates the suffering of Yemenis.

It confirmed the previous US administration’s decision to unfairly designate Ansarullah as a terrorist organization will have inevitable catastrophic consequences for civilians and their ability to access life-saving goods, aid and complicate ongoing United Nations efforts to promote an end to the war and opportunities for peace.

The statement noted that this classification will create legal obstacles for international mediators and hinder the ability of international aid agencies to respond smoothly and appropriately to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

The statement stressed moving forward with this invalid and unjust decision will cost the United States of America legal and criminal consequences as a result of causing obstruction of international efforts to achieve peace as well as obstructing the delivery of relief and humanitarian aid to those affected in Yemen and interfering the work of international organizations.
