[03/December/2020]

HODEIDA, Dec. 03 (Saba) -Hodeida acting governor Mohammed Qahim discussed on Wednesday with UNICEF resident representative in Yemen Philippe Duamelle UNICEF's interventions in health, education, and water sectors.

In the meeting, Qahim affirmed the provinces' readiness to provide all facilities that would help UNICEF implement its work in a way that serves the people in Hodeida.

He reviewed the size and quality of the challenges and burdens imposed on the entire Yemeni people, and the people of Hodeida in particular, especially since the start of the aggression in March 2015, which exacerbated the human tragedy, which is the worst in the world.

He noted the moral, humanitarian and legal responsibility of the United Nations and the United Nations Security Council to end the aggression and blockade, as well as the responsibility of the international community to exert pressure on the coalition of aggression and its supporters.

Projects in Hodeidah have seen a significant decline in 2020 compared to 2019 in the areas of water, health, education, and environmental sanitation, the acting governor said.

some officials in the province said in the meeting that the support provided by UNICEF in 2020 'was not at the required level'.

In return, Duamelle affirmed UNICEF's readiness to provide possible support to the health sector, child care, reproductive health, maternal and newborn health, as well as equipping health centers for severely malnourished children.

UNICEF is interested in supporting children's and adult health programs by providing water and education needs, he said, adding that UNICEF will do everything in its power to continue to contribute to alleviating the suffering of the people of Hodeida, especially children.

The UNICEF Resident Representative described the situation that the children of Yemen are going through as sad and called for speeding up assistance and peace steps in Yemen, stressing the urgent need to mobilize more resources for the people of Yemen.
