More 273,000 families benefited from humanitarian aid in 1st half of 2020
[29/November/2020]

SANA'A, Nov. 29  (Saba) - 273,384 families benefited from humanitarian assistance in the capital Sana'a districts in the first half of 2020, the Information Center of the Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (SCMCHA) reported.

A center's report said the aid provided by international and local organizations in coordination with the SCMCHA included the areas of food security, education, health, shelter, protection, economic empowerment, water, sanitation, and others.

It pointed out that the total of displaced and affected families registered in the capital Sana'a until last June reached 98,523 families, approximately 579,416 individuals, from 19 provinces including the capital.

The center implemented 214 field surveys and it registered 4,195 displaced, affected and other families distributed in the districts of the capital while 338 families sought field survey and 206 displaced persons from Hodeida also were registered at the headquarters of the SCMCHA branch in the capital.

The center noted in its report that the assistance provided comes within the framework of 21 projects implemented and under implemented by international organizations and 58 projects implemented by local organizations in the fields of food, health, education, shelter, water, environment, protection, economic and empowerment.

Abdulwahab Sharafuddin, director of the SCMCHA Council in the capital, pointed to the challenges facing the humanitarian sector in the capital, most notably the increasing numbers of Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the light of  the scarcity of humanitarian assistance provided by humanitarian agencies and organizations.

Sharafuddin noted that some WFP partners did not abide by records and agreements and delayed hiring volunteers, calling on donors and humanitarian organizations to increase the level of support and assistance to displaced families to alleviate their suffering in light of the continuing aggression.
