Y.R 10.7 trillion losses of the agricultural sector due to aggression and blockade: Minister
[30/September/2020]

SANAA, Sep. 30 (Saba) - The total direct and indirect losses and damage to the agricultural sector due to the Saudi-Emirati aggression from the outset have exceeded Y.R 10.7 trillion, deputy minister of agriculture and irrigation Dr. Radhwan al-Rabbaei said on Tuesday.

During a protest stand organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and its facilities and institutions in front of the United Nations office in the capital Sanaa, Dr. Al-Rabbaei added that the direct losses amounted to Y.R 1.6 trillion while the losses and indirect damages reached Y.R 9.1 trillion.

He pointed out that the direct damages included the total and partial damage to buildings, agricultural facilities, machinery, equipment, agricultural supplies, land, protected farmhouses, and productive nurseries, as well as direct damage to livestock, honey bees, and other agricultural crops.

The Minister also indicated that the indirect damage to the agricultural sector included the total damage in the valleys of al-Sahel al-Tehami in Hodeida, partial damage to the agricultural bodies of the Ministry of Agriculture, indirect damage to poultry farms, and economic losses in the agricultural plant production, greenhouses, and productive nurseries.

He added that aggression has targeted the Yemeni people and its food security in an attempt to humiliate it and to bring it to its knees since March 2015.

The minister called upon the United Nations to play its role in pressuring the countries of the aggression coalition to release the ships of oil derivatives to provide the needs and requirements of the vital and service sectors in Yemen, including the agricultural sector.

Al-Rabbaei called on humanitarian organizations to translate their slogans into realities to serve humanity, allow the entry of oil derivatives ships, provide for the needs of Yemenis, and alleviate their suffering.
