FM discusses with UN official catastrophic repercussions due to detain oil ships by aggression counties
[09/August/2020]

SANAA, Aug. 9 (Saba) -  Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hisham Sharaf, discussed on Sunday with the United Nations' official the catastrophic repercussions as a result of continuing to seize oil ships by the Saudi-led aggression coalition and preventing them from entering Hodeidah port.

The move came during his meeting with the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Lise Grande.

In the meeting, Sharaf indicated that the countries of the aggression have continued to escalate their brutal attacks on civilians, especially children and women, in a number of governorates, in a flagrant and continuous violation of the international and humanitarian law, in light of empty calls for peace and the silence of the international community regarding developments in Yemen.

The Minister stressed the importance of neutralizing the economic and humanitarian files, adding , "Any attempt to achieve and succeed peace must address the humanitarian and living aspects, as re-payment of state employees' salaries, not hindering ships loaded with foodstuffs and oil derivatives, and re-opening Sanaa International Airport."

Sharaf affirmed that the Salvation Government would continue to provide facilities towards  the United Nations organizations and agencies and international non-governmental organizations operating in Yemen that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the aggression and siege.

The officials also discussed the great seriousness on the Safir floating oil tank consists of more than millions of barrels of crude oil.

The meeting reviewed the activities carried out by United Nations organizations, programs and agencies operating in Yemen, and the aid provided to the displaced people and affected by the aggression in a number of governorates.

Meanwhile, the UN official stressed the United Nations' keenness to support peace efforts and work to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
