Holding oil ships by aggression coalition threaten a humanitarian catastrophe

Holding oil ships by aggression coalition threaten a humanitarian catastrophe
[13/June/2020]

SANAA, June 13 (Saba) - The Coalition of Aggression once again compounding the suffering of the Yemeni people in detaining oil derivatives ships, which threatens catastrophic repercussions on the various vital and service sectors, most notably the health sector, especially in the light of the Corona pandemic.

The Criminal practices of aggression and acts of piracy come in the shadow of a flawed international silence, although everyone is aware of the scale of the humanitarian disaster caused by the denial of the entry of oil derivatives and impact on the various service sectors associated with the daily livelihood of citizens, and efforts to confront the Corona epidemic

In this regard, the Shura Council Abdul Hakim Benchmash, sent letters to the President of the Association of Senates, Shura councils and similar councils in Africa and the Arab world, the presidents of the Council of Senates and shuras of the Association, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, his envoy to Yemen and the Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, which included the arbitrary actions of the Coalition of Aggression on the detention of oil vessels. He called for their role in pushing for the lifting of the comprehensive economic blockade of Yemen.

For his part, Minister of Oil  Ahmed Abdullah Dars reiterated that the health sector is the sector most affected by the continuation of the blockade and  prohibition of the entry of oil ships into the port of Hodeidah by the Coalition of Aggression.

"We have a problem with supplying oil and gas to hospitals and ambulances, as a result of the continuing blockade," he said.

Minister Dars pointed out that the damage of the detention of oil ships will include all Yemenis. Pointing out that delaying the arrival of one ship costs from 18 to 20 thousand dollars per day.

He pointed out that the fine for delaying oil ships due to their detention by the Coalition of Aggression exceeded 66 million and 185 thousand dollars.

The health sector disaster:

In a related context, Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Taha Al Mutawakkil warned against continuing to prevent the alliance of aggression the entry of oil derivatives ships into the port of Hodeidah, which has disastrous consequences for the health sector.

The Minister held the United Nations and its Secretary-General fully responsible for all the consequences of the continued denial of the entry of petroleum derivatives. "We are facing a real disaster if public and private medical facilities stop because of the intransigence of the aggression by preventing the entry of oil derivatives," he said.

The Collective punishment:

For his part, Foreign Minister Engineer Hisham Sharaf warned of the consequences of the continuation of the alliance of aggression in the practice of the policy of collective punishment by preventing the entry of oil and gas derivatives ships.

Minister Sharaf warned in letters to the foreign ministers of the countries sponsoring the political settlement process in Yemen, the foreign ministers of brotherly and friendly countries, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President and members of the Security Council, the President and members of the United Nations Human Rights Council, and the UN envoy to Yemen, that the continued denial of access to gas and oil derivatives vessels would have disastrous consequences in the light of the Coved-19 pandemic and the need for fuel service sectors.

Maritime piracy:

The Yemeni Oil Company has begun to implement the numbering system in the oil terminals and to cover the needs of the most important service sectors according to the available supply possibilities. In order to meet the needs of the local market and maintain the levels of supply stability for as long as possible.

In a statement, the company stressed the need to fully comply with all precautions against the CORONA virus, stressing that no more than one person will be allowed in each mode of transport. Calling on citizens to report any irregularities on the number (836552).

The oil company blamed of the aggression for the repercussions of the blockade and the ongoing maritime piracy and all the consequences of its policy of collective punishment for several years as part of its economic war.

The agricultural sector:

The agricultural sector is one of the vital sectors that will be affected by the oil derivatives crisis, as most farmers depend on oil derivatives for irrigation of their crops.

The detention of oil vessels poses a threat to the agricultural sector and adversely affects the production of agricultural crops that depend on irrigation from wells, as well as the operation of agricultural equipment and machinery, as well as the impact on farmers through the inability to market and sell their crops.

Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification:

Although oil vessels have completed the verification and inspection mechanism procedures in Djibouti and obtained UNITED Nations permits to enter the port of Hodeidah, the Aggression Alliance continues to engage in maritime piracy on oil and other food and medicine vessels.

The oil company explained that the forces of aggression have not allowed the entry of any oil shipments to the port of Hodeidah since the arrival of the ship "Destia Pucci" on 23 May, which was detained for 50 days despite obtaining the un permit after being arbitrarily delayed for seven days in the port of Djibouti.

The detention of oil derivatives ships by the Coalition of Aggression reveals its efforts to undermine efforts to combat the coronavirus and its continued to increase in the suffering of the Yemeni people at a time when the international community and the world have joined forces to confront an epidemic that has become threatening to all.
