[28/January/2020]

SANAA, Jan. 28 (Saba) - Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development Dr. Hussein Maqbouli headed on Tuesday a meeting held in Hodeidah province to discuss the epidemiological situation in the province and ways to address it.

The meeting, which included a number of the concerned ministers and officials and representatives of some international organizations, reviewed the health and humanitarian situation and the difficulties facing the work of the government offices and organizations in this aspect.

In the meeting, Dr. Maqbouli praised the role of the Ministry of Health and its cadres stationed and staying in the province for more than two weeks to confront and eliminate epidemics, and to equip hospitals and health centers to cope with any emergency.

The Deputy Prime Minister held the aggression coalition responsible for the spread of diseases and epidemics as a result of targeting the infrastructure in Hodeidah province and preventing the entry of medicines.

He stressed the importance of joining efforts to eradicate the epidemics through an emergency plan, indicating that the situation in the province is dangerous and requires urgent intervention from the concerned authorities and organizations.

For his part, Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Taha al-Mutwakkil announced Hodeidah as a stricken province due to the increase in the number of patients and the spread of epidemics.

Dr. al-Mutwakkil indicated that the number of suspected cases of malaria during the year 2019 reached one million cases, while cholera suspected cases reached more than a million and dengue more than 76 thousand cases.
