In Marib prisons.. A hell of suffering : Report
In Marib prisons.. A hell of suffering : Report
In Marib prisons.. A hell of suffering : Report
[17/December/2019]

MARIB, Dec. 17 (Saba) - More than 1,200 abductees, mostly patients, students, merchants and travelers arrested on the roads, are living hell because of the inhumane and extra-traditional treatment in the prisons of the forces of aggression in Marib.

Psychological and physical torture, according to human rights organizations, has led to the death of more than 30 detainees in prisons of oppression and torture in Marib.

The various types of torture that are difficult to describe and may not even imagine a normal person may not imagine it coming from humans practiced by the jailers against the detainees, from depriving them of food and drink to torture and suspending hands and legs and sometimes cutting them to death as a method of torture against prisoners who refuse to insult their dignity and humanity.

With no more than two prisons in Marib before the aggression, leaders in the security apparatus of the Islah Party today oversee more than 14 prisons within the city and run them with unparalleled brutality to intimidate prisoners and practice the harshest forms of torture after issuing fatwas for atonement and abhorrence of their dignity.

In addition to torturing prisoners, the abduction of citizens from checkpoints, roads, places and markets in Marib,Al- Jawf and Shabwa provinces is a key task for the Brotherhood's security apparatus, where they are grouped into these torture prisons and forced to plead guilty to fabricated charges.

In most cases, arrests are carried out on the behalf of the surname or region and sometimes on suspicion, where the kidnappers spend years behind bars and torture without any trial and are even absent from their families.

Perhaps it is remarkable in the prisons run by the Security Service of the Brotherhood not to allow the families of the abductees to visit their relatives or to check on them or even communicate with them, where they are forcibly hidden for years and without informing their relatives of their places of detention, which is contrary to Yemeni law, which provides for the notification of the relatives of the detainee during the 24th an hour after his arrest.

A prominent example of the militias kidnapping citizens from the streets is the disappearance of Professor Mustafa Al Mutawakel more than two years ago, after he was arrested at al-Fallj point at the entrance to Marib city after returning from participating in a scientific conference in Morocco through The Airport of Seiyun, as well as the kidnapping of a religious scholar Yahya Al-Dailmi and his companion after returning from Performing hajj rituals, where they were absent from their families.

These two cases reveal how the Islah Party has turned public roads into ambushes to hunt innocent people and put them in the darkness of prisons.

In August this year, as the number of women abducted increased, the Islahy leader appointed by the forces of aggression, sultan al-Arada, opened a special prison for women.

Many cases of abduction have been recorded against women, most notably Samira Marsh, who was kidnapped in the city of Al-Hazm in al-Jawf about a year and a half ago and subjected to torture and deprivation, where her mother and three children were prevented from visiting or communicating with her relatives in flagrant violation of all authentic Yemeni values that elevates the status of women.

The crimes of Saudi mercenaries against prisoners and abductees and violations committed against them in prisons, which amount to crimes against humanity, Marib Governor Ali Mohammed Ta'iman condemned in a statement to Saba.

He noted that many deaths and permanent disabilities had been recorded as a result of the brutal torture of abductees. He called on human rights organizations to move to visit detainees and to pressure the forces of aggression to allow their families to visit them and check on them and improve their living conditions.

Governor Ta'iman stressed that the practices of mercenaries of aggression against prisoners and abductees do not honor the tribes of Marib and their free and condemned by all.

He pointed out that the leaders of the Islah Party have legal and moral responsibility for any past or subsequent crime against prisoners and abductees.

Ta'iman called on Marib, Al-Jawf and Yemeni tribes to take effective action to alleviate the suffering of the abductees and to put pressure on the forces of aggression to release the detainee Samira Marsh, whose arrest is a stain and a black shame on her captors, who have been stripped of all Yemeni values and customs.

The freed prisoner, Deraan al-Saqqaf, recounted the terrible suffering of detainees inside the prisons of the mercenaries in Marib, where he spent nearly two years in prison where he was tortured.

"They are keen to torture us and prevent air in a very tight, hot, low-ceilinged room that sweat will fall from our bodies from the afternoon until after midnight," Deraan said.

The nutrition we were given was limited to four small pieces of breads a day, beans and undrinkable water, and we have to use a purified sand or dust (Tayammum) for pray because there is often no water," he said.

"We moved from Ibn Gharib prison to political security prison, from narrow rooms to solitary rooms and they entered us a room two meters in two meters, we were six in a room that can accommodate only three people, the visit and communication is forbidden for us and the prison official comes to whip us with cable in the same cell, we are only allowed to enter the toilet twice a day and we are not two minutes late."

Deraan said many of his fellow prisoners and detainees died as a result of torture, some of whom lost limbs due to lack of health care.

Prisons are overcrowded with detainees from different provinces, including many Marib residents' sons who have been kidnapped from roads and markets and accused of belonging to Ansar Allah, he said.

Hassan Abdullah Zayed al-Sharif, a resident of Marib, was abducted from his home and he died in prison as a result of brutal torture and the news of his death was hidden from his family for months before they found his body in a refrigerator for the dead at Marib hospital, he said.

Deraan expressed the hope that the media, human rights and humanitarian organizations would shed light on the suffering of prisoners inside the prisons of the aggression mercenaries. Calling on the ICRC to visit these prisons to save the lives of hundreds of detainees who receive daily torture.

Perhaps the suffering of prisoners and abductees and the brutal torture they are subjected to in the prisons of the forces of aggression will continue to be a deep wound of the continuing aggression that supports takfirist groups and finances them to insult the dignity of the Yemeni human being, where torture and kidnapping sit a continuation and under the supervision of Saudi and Emirati officers, but the restrictions will inevitably break and the sun of freedom will rise for all the abductees when the cries of Yemen's men rise, vowing victory.
