Consultative meeting discusses media role in fighting corruption
[08/December/2019]

SANAA, Dec. 8 (Saba) – The Supreme National Authority for Combating Corruption (SNACC) on Sunday organized the first coordinating consultative meeting with heads and representatives of official and private media institutions.

The meeting, which comes in conjunction with the International Anti-Corruption Day that which falls on December 9 of each year, discussed enhancing the media role in fighting corruption.

Head of SNACC Dr. Mohammed al-Ghashm considered the media professionals as essential partners for the Authority in fighting corruption whether through spreading community awareness of its danger and harmful effects or uncovering many corruption practices and reporting them to the Authority and the official agencies.

Dr. al-Ghashm affirmed that the consultative meeting is an opportunity to shed light on the state’s approaches and efforts to fight and reduce corruption.

For his part, Minister of Information Dhaifuallah al-Shami praised SNACC's unique step in holding the consultative meeting to enhance the role of official and private media institutions in fighting corruption.

Al-Shami noted that the Authority would face difficulties and obstacles in its work due to the large number of administrative and financial corruption files.

He stressed the need to unite efforts of SNACC and media institutions to familiarize society with the Authority's role and how to contact it to report corruption issues.

The meeting touched on the authority's work mechanism, and reviewed a number of visions and observations on the media's role in combating corruption.
