SANAA, Nov.21 (Saba) - Five years have passed, and childhood in Yemen is suffering under unjust aggression that has painted a painful scene of children their lives kidnapped or have been permanently disabled, and others living under famine, disease, epidemics and insecurity.

The repercussions of the aggression on the health sector were not limited to the direct targeting of health facilities, including for children, from which even preterm infants were not delivered, but extended to indirect targeting by preventing the entry of medicines and medical supplies for childhood diseases, resulting in the emergence of a number of diseases that have been destroyed. Children's lives, including malnutrition, dengue fever and others, al-Mutawakel told Saba.

The aggression that has dragged the children of Yemen into the bitterness of life, from which they have tasted nothing but killing, destruction, displacement, hunger, disease and the denial of their most basic rights, the right to life.

The aggression, the continuation of the blockade and the targeting of infrastructure have killed children in Yemen by depriving them of health and life rights. Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Taha al-Mutawakel confirmed that.

He referred to the crimes of aggression against children in Yemen, as the first targets of the first missile of US-backed Saudi-led aggression were children and women in the area of Bani Hawat in the secretariat of the capital, where 14 children and six women were martyred, and other massacres that affected women and children, including the crime of victims of Saada, which killed 60 children and a crime Hajjor in Hajjah, which resulted in 14 women victims and six children, in addition to 12 girls at a school in Sa'wan.

The Minister of Public Health confirmed that 100,000 children die each year from aggression, diseases and epidemics, including malnutrition and the lack of medicines saved by the blockade.

The world is celebrating World Children's Day at a time when childhood in Yemen is witnessing the greatest tragedy due to the continuation of the aggression and siege, the spokesman of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Youssef Al-Hadheri said.

There are 7,200 children between the martyr and the wounded and more than 800 children disabled as a result of the direct bombing of the aircraft of aggression, he also said.

The number of cholera cases is around 2,200,000, of whom about 3,750 have died, 32 percent of who are children, Dr. al-Hadheri said. There are 34,520 measles cases, of which 273 have died, 65 percent of which are children.

He said that the number of people with diphtheria patients 4,500, of which 253 cases died about 16 percent of children under the age of five, indicating that there are 2.9 million children under the age of five who are malnourished out of 5.4 million children and 55 percent, of whom 400 thousand children are severely malnourished.

The Ministry of Health spokesman said that 86 percent of children under the age of five suffer from anemia, 46 percent of children suffer from stunting, and 80,000 children suffer from mental disorders due to the sounds of airplanes and rocket explosions.

 

He stressed that six newborns die every two hours due to the deterioration of health care services, and 65 children under five out of a thousand children die due to some kind of disease, pointing out that 320 thousand patients were unable to receive treatment abroad due to the closure of Sana'a airport, about 42 thousand patients died and the proportion of children of them 30 percent.

Dr. Al-Hadheri pointed out that 12 million children, all children in Yemen, need humanitarian and health assistance and that 51 percent of health facilities are partially or completely disrupted by the aggression and blockade, which directly affected the provision of care for children.
