SIDA grants $4 mln for SCER's activities


SANA'A, Dec. 17 (Saba) - Yemen and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) signed here on Monday a grant agreement of $4 million to support the activities of the Supreme Commission for Election and Referendum (SCER).

The agreement was signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammed al-Sa'adi and the SCER deputy head and Swedish nonresident ambassador to Yemen Dag Juhlin Dannfelt.

The $4 million SIDA's grant will be dedicated to finance the SCER's activities of the referendum on the new constitution and the voter registration process for the 2014 presidential elections.

The Minister hailed the Swedish agency's initiative to support the SCER's expectant activities, saying such aid is part of the international and regional commitment to support the underway political transition in the country.

Dannfelt expressed the Swedish readiness to offer the all available assistance to Yemen, praising the peaceful political change occurred in the country, which – he said – represents an inspiring model in the region and the entire world.
