Hundreds demonstrate against new PM in Jordan
[04/February/2011]
AMMAN, Feb. 4 (Saba) -- Hundreds of Jordanians on Friday took to the streets to protest against the country's new prime minister despite heavy rain and low temperature, Xinhua News has reported.
The protestors, including leftists and some members of the Muslim Brotherhood, chanted "down with the government," calling for dissolving the lower house.
"We want that government to be elected rather than appointed by the king," the protesters said.
"We want reforms, we want change, we want democracy," chanted the demonstrators before the office of the Jordanian Prime Minister in the capital of Amman.
The Islamic Action Front (IAF) in Jordan has said it will continue demonstrations, although Jordan's King Abdullah II named Marouf Bakhit as the new prime minister on Tuesday after the resignation of Samir Rifai.
Demonstrations have been held every Friday in Amman for several weeks. However, other groups involved in previous protests had decided to quit this week.
