60,000 newborns in Gaza in 2010 -- statistics

GAZA, Jan 22 (Saba) -- 60,000 babies were born in 2010 in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian statistics said on Saturday.
Director General of Civil Status Department at the Palestinian Interior Ministry of the dismissed Hamas government, Riyad Al-Zaitona said in a statement that the Ministry recorded, in 2010, the birth of 60,000 babies and that the male newborns exceeded the female newborn by 25 percent.
He noted that there was an increase of 6,000 more newborns than that of year 2009 while the death rates decreased in the same year.
The ministry registered more than 3,900 deaths in the Gaza Strip, Al-Zaitona said, noting that the number of births in Gaza reached 59,154 in 2010 compared to 3,976 deaths. He pointed out that the birth-death rates quota is 15 to 1, which means that there were 162 births to 8 deaths per day in 2010.
According to this statistic, Gaza registered 21,490 births while the northern parts of the Strip witnessed the birth of 10,350 and the middle of Strip recorded 8,210 newborns.
In Khan Yunis, south of the Strip, 11,554 newborns were registered while 8, 210 babies were born in Rafah city.
The number of deaths in Gaza was 1,372 while the northern parts recorded 642 deaths and the middle area of the Gaza Strip registered 614 deaths. Khan Yunis registered 797 deaths while there were 551 deaths in Rafah.
