Heavy snowfall disrupts life in Belgium
[24/December/2010]
BRUSSELS, Dec 24 (Saba) -- Heavy snow fell throughout Thursday night in Belgium, creating road, railways, and air traffic problems, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Brussels Airport announced Friday that because of heavy snowfall, there was only one runway in use.
"We have delays and cancellations so please check the flight info before coming over to the airport. For the moment we don't have enough capacity to handle incoming traffic. Only a few flights are accepted," said the airport in a statement.
Driving conditions are reported to be very dangerous across the country Friday morning with the media reporting a spate of accidents.
The authorities were asking people to stay at home and avoid travel if possible. In Brussels, bus and tram services were badly affected too.
