Moderate Quake Hits Indonesia's Java
[12/August/2010]
Jakarta, August 12 (Saba) - A moderate 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Indonesia's main island of Java on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
No tsunami warning was issued. The quake struck at 69 km south-east of Sukabumi and at a depth of 33 km, according to the agency. Indonesia sits on the Pacific "ring of fire", where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
