Iran Denies Ahmadinejad Assassination Attempt

Tehran, August 04 (Saba) - Iranian source in the president's office denied claims of assassination attempt on the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

According to Mehr news, a homemade grenade exploded away from Ahmadinejad's presidential motorcade in Hamadan in Western Iran. There are no reports of casualties.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday escaped an assassination attempt when his procession was targeted by a bomb, Al Arabiya TV reported. The Iranian presidency confirmed the attack, which left a number of injured people. The blast took place in Hamadan as Ahmadinejad was about to address a crowd, and the attacker was arrested on the spot.

Al Arabiya cited its own sources as saying the bomb had hit a car carrying journalists and presidential staff.

Ahmadinejad appeared on live Iranian television at a sports stadium in the western city of Hamadan. He was apparently well and made no mention of any attack.
