[03/August/2010]
UNITED NATIONS, Aug 3 (Saba) - Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy is briefing the Security Council on Tuesday, at the request of Lebanon, on the exchange of fire earlier in the day between Israeli and Lebanese forces along the Blue Line, in the general area of El Adeisse, a council diplomat told reporters, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Four Lebanese were killed and two Israelis were wounded. Le Roy is expected to speak to reporters following the closed-door council meeting. A UN press statement said UNIFIL "has been focused on restoring calm in the area through intensive contacts with both parties" and Acting Force Commander Brigadier General Santi Bonfanti himself flew by helicopter to the area to assess the situation.
It added that he "asked them to stop all firing in the area "and the situation is presently calm," adding that UNIFIL's "immediate priority is to consolidate the calm and it is urging both parties to exercise maximum restraint."
