Foreign diplomats in Cairo briefed about outcome of Arab peace initiative cmte talks

CAIRO, Aug 2 (Saba) -- The Arab League on Monday briefed more than a hundred heads and members of foreign missions accredited in Cairo on the results of the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the recent Arab peace initiative committee at the headquarters of the Arab League last Thursday, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

President of the Office of the Secretary-General, Ambassador Hesham Youssef, told reporters that the ambassadors were briefed about results of such meeting and became acquainted with the letter to be sent to US President Barack Obama on the peace process.
He pointed out that the letter included the Arab position with regard to the peace terms and requirements necessary to create an atmosphere for fruitful negotiations and move to direct negotiations, in addition to some of the ideas in regard to the mechanism of negotiations and the time frame for the negotiation process between the Palestinians and Israelis.

He noted that foreign ambassadors and heads of foreign missions have had a desire to know the details of the Arab position and the next steps in order to reinvigorate the efforts of the peace process, stating that some matters had been clarified in light of questions raised about the outcome of the Arab Peace Initiative Committee meeting.

He recalled that no statements had been issued following the conclusion of the meeting but only the letter that was sent to President Obama which was handed over to the US Ambassador in Cairo, Margaret Scobey.
