Lieberman Reaffirms Continued Settlement Activities in Jerusalem
[06/April/2010]
Jerusalem, April 06 (Saba) - The Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has reaffirmed his government's position which supports the building of Jewish settlements in occupied Jerusalem, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Radio Israel quoted Lieberman as saying "we cannot freeze construction in east or west Jerusalem because our sovereignty over our capital will be at test."
He said the international community wanted Israel to give up the land it occupied in the war of 1967 but he said he believed such a step would only bring the conflict closer to Tel Aviv and would not end the conflict with the Palestinians.
Lieberman's comments came in the wake of similar statements made by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night during the celebrations of the end of the Passover, where he gave assurances to Israelis that Jewish settlement in all Jerusalem will continue.
