France urges restraint to ease tensions in Gaza
[02/April/2010]
PARIS, April 2 (Saba) -- French authorities said on Friday that they wanted to see everything done to avoid an increase in tensions in Gaza, where a succession of Israeli air raids took place overnight and during the morning after a Hamas rocket attack against Israeli territory, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported on Friday.
French officials said they were waiting for precise details of what had happened but their position on the situation remains constant.
"Of course, everything must be put to work to avoid tensions. Everything must be put to work to ease tensions, once they arise and everything must be put in place to calm the situation on the ground," Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said, adding this was Frances "first concern." Secondly, the official noted, there must be continued mobilization to promote the resumption of negotiations and the peace process, no matter who is working towards this goal.
"Thats the priority. It is to get the peace process restarted and in this regard, any upsurge in tension does not contribute to this objective," the French official affirmed. Saba
