Additional heavy sanctions on Iran in a month - Israeli official
[02/January/2010]
GAZA, Jan 2 (Saba) - The current regime in Iran will not be in power before the next year is out, said Danny Ayalon, Israeli deputy foreign minister, in statements to Radio Israel on Saturday, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA ) on Saturday. The whole world is against the Iranian nuclear program and chances are great that additional sanctions will be imposed on Iran in about a month's time, he said. "There is a consensus among Washington, Moscow, and Beijing that a nuclear Iran poses a substantial threat to the current world security system," he said. The same rhetoric was echoed a few days earlier by prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu who cautioned against dangers of the Iranian nuclear program, affirming that the hour was near regarding a decisive step to stop the program dead in its tracks. Netanyahu urged the international community to take appropriate measures to dissuade Iran from continuing further along with its program. An Israeli official had made some remarks a few days back indicating that US president Barack Obama would soon make a momentous and crucial sharp turn in the policy against Iran, to be culminated by imposing burdensome sanctions with the ultimate effect of crippling the Iranian economy. According to this nameless official there will be a ban on allowing Iranian airliners to land in major airports around the world. Also Iran will be banned from exporting its oil products to world markets and further commercial and economic boycotts will be placed against it.
