Yemen, Australia discuss economic, investment ties

SANA'A, Jan. 05 (Saba)- Minister of Trade and Industry Yahya al-Mutawakel held a meeting on Sunday with the non-resident Australian ambassador to Yemen Ian Bigis and discussed with him aspects of cooperation in the fields of investment and economy and ways of developing and strengthening them.

The talks dealt with prospects of trade exchange between the two Countries, particularly importing Australian wheat and Yemen's efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) as well as Australian support in this field.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the latest economic,commercial and investment developments during the last period and government's effort to improve the investment environment to attract more Arab and foreign investments.

"We are keen to strengthen the terms of trade with Australia and develop closer relations between the two friendly countries and look forward to Australian support for Yemen for joining the WTO," minister said .

For his part, the Australian non-resident ambassador praised the latest development in the country in the field of economy and development, highlighting what has been done in Aden Port facilities and the availability of all aspects of security and safety and affirmed Australian's keenness to strength cooperation with Yemen in the field of trade and investment.
