Yemen, donors discuss desert locusts spread

SANA'A,  (Saba)- Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hawshabi affirmed on Monday that desert locusts situation has a potential threat for other neighboring countries.

During his meeting with representatives of international donor organizations, the minister pointed out to the substance of supporting Yemeni efforts in fighting locusts spread.

He briefed donors on Yemeni efforts during the last period over fighting locusts that had infested large areas in remote regions of the country.

The minister praised support of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in coordination with World Food Program (WFP) for fighting desert locusts.

Director-general of the National Center for Desert Locusts Control (NCDLC), Abdu Farei al-Rumaih, explained the current status of locusts spread in each of Shabwa, Hadramout, and al-Mahrah, highlighting the main role of locusts control teams to exterminate locust in infected areas.
