President  receives UN envoy, approves the redeployment plan

SANAA, Feb. 18 (Saba) - President Mahdi al-Mashat, received on Sunday Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen Martin Griffiths.

During the meeting, which was attended by Speaker of the House of Representatives Yahya Al-Ra'i and Prime Minister Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Habtoor, the aspects related to the plan of the head of the Coordination Committee for the redeployment, Danish General Michael Lawlessard.

The meeting also discussed the latest developments in the peace process in Yemen and the latest developments in Hodeidah province as well as aspects related to the file of prisoners.

During the meeting, the president praised the efforts exerted by the UN envoy to bring peace and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the aggression and siege.

He affirmed the readiness to implement the steps of the first phase of the redeployment Hodeidah according to the plan of the head of the Coordination and Re-deployment.

He wished to the Coordination Committee success in its tasks, which will contribute to the restoration of stability in the province of Hodeidah.

He pointed out that the other side continued to disavow what had been agreed upon in Sweden's consultations.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed regret for the continued presence of mercenary elements in the Red Sea Mills and food factories and their continued attacks on the committees in charge of opening the road to the mills as well as targeting fishermen in Hodeidah by the US-backed saudi-led aggression coalition forces.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of implementing what was agreed upon in Sweden, pointing out the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen as a result of the aggression and siege.

For his part, the UN envoy said that there is international interest in bringing peace to Yemen. He stressed the importance of moving ahead with the implementation of the Swedish agreement and the importance of redeployment as soon as possible in accordance with the plan presented by the head of the Coordination and Re-deployment.

Griffiths praised the efforts exerted by the president and his support for the success of the Agreement on Hodeidah.

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations also confirmed his keenness to hold negotiations soon.
